1874, April 21. Cover from Guatemala to Antigua carried at single rate up to 1/2 oz, bearing 1871 5 c. bistre-brown (SG 2), tied by neat ''Guatemala'' cds in black representing an early usage since this postmark was first introduced in 1874, with ''Correos de Guatemala/Paquetes'' cds in red alongside -according to Goodman, this marking was believed to have identified mail to be carried by packet to a foreign country; nevertheless, it is also known on domestic mail-. A delightful example of this scarce single franking, being one of just four first issue covers recorded bearing adhesives tied by a domestic datestamp which adds to its desirability. Cert. Moorhouse. Scott 2. Ex Cervera, Lange and Speycher.
