1859, 20 c. blue, stone A, an extraordinary marginal block of four from the bottom left corner of the sheet, positions 34-35 / 45-46, featuring blank space at top right where the “5” centavos transfer error had been placed in previously printed sheets, wonderfully margined varying from large to huge spaces, displaying a different intensity of impression and shades due to an uneven inking of the plate.
In the process of transfer, one 5 centavos cliché was erroneously placed at position 35 onto the plate of 20 centavos; the postal authorities, after having been printed the majority of the 20 centavos sheets, were aware of this error and position 35 was then erased resulting in a blank space -probably very few sheets included this correction-.
Minute thin spot between adhesives at base, slight corner crease at bottom left and small paper hinge at top, none of which are of significance. -Only four items in mint condition, which include the transfer error but not erased, are recorded, of which one is a complete sheet that had been regarded as the most important item of Colombian philately-. This unparalleled gem, which was recently discovered in May 2007 and graced the extraordinary Alfredo Frohlich’s collection, is the only existing proof of the erasure of the 5 centavos transfer error. Its extraordinary significance and importance, together with its undoubtedly visual magnificence, makes this item one of the two most important in Colombian philately, as well as a gem of South American philately. Cert. Bortfeldt. Ex Frohlich.
