| Descrizione |
1865, May 15. Entire letter from Montevideo to Bordeaux, franked by 1862 80 c. rose, tied by anchor lozenge, with ''Uruguay/Saintonge'' octagonal datestamp adjacent, thus being carried via the ''Ligne Annexe de La Plata'' by the ''Saintongue'' to Brazil, where it unusually continued its journey per the ''Ligne du Brèsil'' to Bordeaux. The correspondence was not transferred to another steamer as normal practice, due to the then unavailability of the ''Guienne'' and the shipwreck of the ''Bearn'' which should have replaced the former, with the return journey exceptionally covered by the ''Saintonge''(see Salles Vol. III on page 23), which was its last voyage. Front showing ''Bresil/16 Juin 65/Bordeaux'' cds. Raymond Salles only recorded two covers having been carried on this return journey, this cover not being included. Maury 24. Ex Scott.
