1863, Oct. 14. Entire letter from Glasgow via Calais to Mexico City carried at double weight letter rate with 1 s. green, pl. 1, two copies with slight imperfections, tied by ''159'' duplexes, with red French entry and ''6'' Reales due marking to be paid by the addressee. Reverse showing London transit and ''Mexique/16 Oct. 63'' octagonal datestamp (Salles1.315). Covers originating from European countries, and therefore bearing frankings other than French, are rarely encountered in combination with a French maritime marking; this cover, including this French marking type, is the only recorded example.
