1859, 1/2 r. orange, in a refulgent colour showing clear to large margins, on 30 March 1859 cover from Caracas to La Guaira, paid according to the single rate for a distance not exceeding 25 miles, with stamp tied by superb strike of negative “J.M.S.” monogram oval handstamp, probably originating from a commercial house. This cover, with docket inside indicating the origin of this cover as from Caracas, enabled the origin of this cancellation to be determined. One of only two covers in existence exhibiting this monogram cancel, this being of exquisite quality -with only two further copies off cover recorded-. One of the most desirable and fascinating cancellation usages in Venezuelan philately, of visually striking eye-appeal and great significance for the advanced collection. Cert. Moorhouse. Scott 1a.
