1873, Nov. 25. Cover (opened for display) from Guayaquil to Bordeaux, bearing 1871-75 25 c. light blue pair and 80 c. rose, covering the single weight rate up to 10 grams, cleanly tied by blue anchor lozenge with corresponding ''Guayaquil/Paq. Fr. F N° 2'' octagonal datestamp (Salles 1.383a: RR-pièce d'amateur) alongside, also applied in blue, and red framed ''PD'', being carried on the Line F ''Ville de Bordeaux'' steamer heading to Panama arriving on the 28th, then embarked at Colon on the Line A ''Guadeloupe'' steamer departing on December 1st to Saint-Nazaire. Reverse showing neat ''Caldera/25 Nov 73/Paq. Fr. N° 1'' octagonal datestamp which is not registered in Salles and is assumed to have been applied in error on this cover -Caldera was a Chilean port of call belonging to the Line F-. An extremely rare cover, being the finest of only seven recorded from Guayaquil addressed to a transatlantic destination, as well as one of only two known (plus a piece) bearing the Caldera datestamp -with the other cover, which is not complete, coming from the Schatzkès collection-. Of consummate beauty in every regard. Maury 57, 60. Ex Dubus.
