1863, 2 r. black on pink, with pre-printing crease, on December 10 entire letter from Mexico City to Madrid. Very interesting contents regarding the mails and the conflict with France: ''Por motivo de las muy críticas circunstancias por que está atravesando esta República, el Gobierno ha suspendido toda clase de comunicaciones con los fuertes ocupados por los franceses, y sólo a fuerza de instancias y de ruegos, se ha podido conseguir el que hoy salga un extraordinario para Veracruz conduciendo solamente correspondencia para Europa''; with a further notation inside probably made by a courier: ''Los franceses se han movido rumbo a Puebla, cuya población defiende el Ejército Mejicano. Manuel supo tarde de la salida de este correo: está bueno''. According to the text inside, this mail was the first normal correspondence allowed by the French to be forwarded addressed to a foreign destination. The letter arrived too late to be carried on the British steamer ''Tampico'' which sailed on December 18 and therefore the framed ''Après le Depart'' marking was applied; subsequently carried to Bordeaux where forwarded by ''Georges Raffard'' (cachet on back), with French transit and arrival alongside.
