1861, Nov. 20. Stampless entire letter from St. Petersburg to Sydney (New South Wales) The cover should have been carried via Marseilles and India to Australia, nevertheless when the letter arrived to Paris (on front ''Prusse/Valenciennes'' transit in blue) was then directed to London, from there was put on a private steamship which sailed via Cape of Good Hope to Australia. Reverse with arrival ''Ship-Letter-Sydney/March 25 1862'' datestamp. Also on back manuscript ''17/3'' (20 Sgr.) credited to Prussia. A fascinating postal history piece. An extremely rare destination with only four covers still recorded to Australia, three of them offered in this sale.

1875, March 23. Envelope to Adelaide (South Australia) via Brindisi, bearing 1866 1 k., 5 k. and 20 k., tied by indistinct prephilatelic two-line dated repeated on back. Front with framed ''Frankirovano'' and arrival, with railway Zhmerika-Volochinsk cds, manuscript kreuzer rate and Italian transits. A very rare destination before U.P.U., a very desirable cover one of only two recorded. Mi. 18x, 20x, 22x.

1874, Oct. 28. Envelope from Rostov to Adelaide (South Australia) via England, franked by 1866 1 k. in combination with vertically laid paper 3 k. in pair and 30 k., tied by Rostov cds's. Front showing rate notations, ''London/paid'' and Adelaide cds's. Reverse with postal wagon n. 7-8 datestamp of Orel-Dvinsk line. Cover edge imperfections and stamps with faults, except one 3 k. adhesive, nevertheless one of only two franked covers recorded two Australia before U.P.U., both pieces offered in this sale. Reverse with nobility wax seals and Moscow, postal wagon 3-4 (St. Petersburg-Warsaw) and Brussels cds's. As all registered letters sent abroad, the cover was insured for 10 rubles. (2), each with two perforations missing and 8 k. tied by St. Petersburg cds's with red crayon ''15'' (d.) credit to England and ''1 1/2 d'' handstruck, credited to Canada. A very unusual and desirable destination to Canada prior to its entry into the U.P.U. Mi. 24x, 26x.

1873, March 5. Envelope (roughly opened at top) with contents from St. Petersburg to Capetown via London, bearing two pairs and two singles of 1866 10 k. tied by St. Petersburg cds's, alongside red crayon ''6 3/4'' silbergrossen credited to Prussia and other rate notations with ''1/-'' steamship fee to Cape of Good Hope and ''1'' d. fee on delivery. The letter was written in ''St. Petersburg Winter Palace'' by N. Schilling, an adviser to the Grand Duke Alexis, fourth son of Czar Alexander II, including interesting content: His Highness has just begun his voyage from the east shore of Asia by land, and will not arrive here before the month of July''. An extraordinary destination, unique before U.P.U. An exceedingly desirable showpiece. Mi. 22x.

(2, one adhesive with imperfections), 5 k. and 10 k., all tied by superb concentric octagons ''1'' of Warsaw, matching red cds at right, also with red Eydkuhnen-Bromberg ''Aus Polen Franco'' Prussian transit, blue crayon ''5'' credited to Prussia and Erquelines entry.
