1790 ca. Cover front from Mendoza to the Governor of the Chiloé Island, charged at ''4 1/2'' reales rate, with red ''Mendosa'' straight-line and italic ''Chile.'' (32 mm) type in red in transit at Santiago. The city of Mendoza (later in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata) belonged to the Captaincy General of Chile until 1778. Scarce. SFC 56 & 41b.
