1853, 50 r. green, complete to wide margins, used in combination with 25 r. blue, die II, mostly large margins, applied overlapping the upper edge resulting in a small portion of paper loss and crease only in margin, not detracting. The stamps paying the third weight internal rate up to 7/8 oz on 19 July 1854 entire letter from Lisbon to Torres Novas, tied by “1” numeral cancels, matching blue cds at bottom left. An extremely rare and desirable first issue combination franking, of which less than five are recorded, being scarcer than the 1853 50 r. together with 1855-56 D. Pedro V 25 r. mixed franking for the same rate. Of great desirability. Af 2II, 3; Mi 2, 3a.
