1857, July 18. Entire letter from Montevideo to Rio de Janeiro, carried by private coastal ''Focantins'' vessel to Brazil, showing rococo ''Sala De Comercio/De/Montevideo'' oval handstamp in blue. The ''Chamber of Commerce'' of Montevideo offered a special 'late hour' postal facility, consisting of the handling of restricted merchant correspondence when the state postal offices were closed. One of the earliest recorded covers with this handstamp, which was introduced in 1857, when Juan G. Buela was authorised by the National Government to introduce this out-of-hours postal service.
