1853, 50 r. yellow green, clear to large margins, very good embossing, used on double rate entire letter from Faial (Azores Islands), 14 July 1855, to Lisbon. Stamp uncancelled on departure, tied by Lisbon ''1'' numeral on receipt, with alongside ''ILHAS'' (''Islands'') straight line handstamp, applied in Lisbon to correspondence originating in the ''Adjacent Islands'' of the Azores. The only First Issue cover showing this fascinating handstamp. An essential showpiece for the specialist. Af 3; Mi 3a. Ex Pearson and Sussex.
