Spanish Maritime Mail carried by ''Navíos de Aviso''
: small warships that irregularly sailed and occasionally carried correspondance of the Royal Service. 1754, Oct 15. Early letter from Madrid to the bishop of the cathedral in Santiago, signed ''Yo El Rey'' by king Fernando VI. The lot also includes another 1799 three documents carried by ''Empresa Estatal de Correos Marítimos'' from Aranjuez to Chile, all signed ''Yo El Rey'' by king Carlos IV, some of them with embossed royal wax seals. A very rare group.

''Correos Marítimos'' from Spain to the Indies
. This maritime mail service, created in 1764 by King Carlos III, covered the line La Coruña-San Cristóbal de La Habana. The correspondence to Chile was then carried either via Panama-Paita-Lima-Valparaíso or via Cartagena de Indias-Río Magdalena-Santa Fé-Quito-Paita-Lima-Valparaíso.
Spanish Crown Ships. 1780 ca. Front of official parcel endorsed ''Por el Rey'' to Santiago de Chile rated at ''544'' reales in manuscript, with superb straight-line ''España'' in red applied at La Coruña. A very interesting item carried at high rate.

Spanish Crown Ships. 1781. Front of official parcel endorsed ''Por el Rey'' to the Governor and General Commander of the Kingdom of Chile in Santiago, rated at ''860'' reales in manuscript, with very fine strike of black crowned shield in oval used for the official correspondence (type of 1781) and superb straight-line ''España'' in red applied at La Coruña. A very rare item carried at one of the highest rates of all items in existence sent to Spanish Indies.

''Navíos de Registro'': ships used for commercial purposes that carried correspondence (in sealed boxes) ''free of charge'', to be rated on the destination harbour and postpaid by the addressee on arrival. 1780 ca. Cover to Concepción de Chile endorsed ''Por el Navío Príncipe Carlos'' (this ship opened up the route via Río de la Plata) charged with framed rating marking of 5 reales and straight-line ''España'', both in red applied at Cádiz; also a cover to Santiago with straight-lines ''3 de Plata'' (reales) and ''España'', both very probably applied at Cartagena de Indias. A scarce pair including a very rare item carried by the ''Príncipe Carlos''.

The most important collection of Colonial Period postal history in existence
. 1770-1818. Stunning collection of 60 covers or fronts of cover, mostly attractively mounted on exhibition pages, including several very early items of the XIXth Century and many very/extremely rare postmarks to note, such as ''Franca'' & ''Chyle'' in black on large part of entire letter (one of only two items recorded, ex-Lafuente Machaín and Balletti), 1784 cover with ''Franca'' & ''Chile'' in red (ex-Marticorena and Blank), the two only recorded letters (1789) with straight-line ''Chile'' (Tizón fig. 2, ex-Camino and Gálvez), 1797 cover to Buenos Aires with ''Balparairso'' in black and ''Chile'' in red (ex-Gálvez), 1794 entire with ''Aconcagua.'' in red (one of only two such items recorded, ex-Camino), the two only such items recorded with ''Santa Rosa'' in red (ex-Camino and Balletti), one of only two recorded ''Copiapo'' in black on front of cover, 1797-1804 two of only less than such five letters recorded with ''Balparaiso'' in black (ex-Marticorena & Blank, Camino), cover with ''San Fernando'' in red (ex-Gálvez), 1812 cover with ''Franca'' & ''Talca'' in red (ex-Gálvez), the only entire letter (1797) known with ''Concepcion'' in black to B. Aires (ex-Lafuente Machaín), the only recorded ''Concepn'' in red on front of cover (ex-Camino), 1809 entire letter with framed ''Angeles'' in red, the only entire letter recorded with ''Ballenar'' in black (ex-Marticorena & Blank), cover with ''Vadivia'' in red (ex-Camino) and front with the same handstruck, ''Coquimbo'' in red on cover (ex-Blank), 1805 letter with red ''Combarbala'' (only three recorded), as well as other rare postmarks. Mostly in fine/very fine condition. A most impressive and extraordinary collection for the most discerning collector of Chilean postal history.
