The Independent Period postal history collection
. A magnificent assembly of 86 folded letters, covers and some fronts of cover, mostly beautifully mounted on exhibition pages and generally in very good condition, including mail to external destination, bills of lading with the only recorded item from Coquimbo (ex-Blank), several rare handstrucks such as ''Cauquenes'' in black,
cover with ''Ballenar'' in black & ''Coquimbo'' in red (ex-Blank), the only recorded entire letter with ''Cauquenes'' in red,
''Angeles'' in black (ex-Blank), ''Cuzcuz'' (ex-Marticorena & Blank), ''Ovalle'' (ex-Blank), cover with ''Elqui'' & ''Franca'' in red (ex-Blank),
''Casa-Blanca'', ''Ligua'' in blue, ''Yllapel'' in black, ''Melipilla'' in red and black, ''Talca''-''Franca'' in red, ''Quirigué'' in black on arrival, etc.
, and the only recorded example in black ''Petorca'' (ex-Blank).
A stunning collection with viewing very recommended. Provenances: Camino, Blank, Gálvez, Marticorena and Etienne de Viron.

Coastal Maritime Mail. 1855-56, two entire letters bearing very fine strikes of straight-line ''Cabotaje'', very scarce in red; one entire at double rate from Coquimbo to Santiago rated ''3'' reales (1 real for the coastal steamer rate), the other from Tomé to Valparaíso. Ex-Gálvez.

Selection of 5 covers/entires and one front: cover from Tacna (Peru) with blue ''Vapor'' charged on arrival ''3 1/2'' (1 1/2 reales for the coastal steamer rate) with ''Ultramar'' in red; two entires showing ''Cabotaje'' handstruck in black; very interesting entire from Valparaíso (without rate markings on front) to Cobija (Bolivia) with manuscript on reverse ''Extraviada en este puerto. Recogida por'' and adjacent ''Barrau y Astigueta/Cobija'' forwarding agent oval cachet (not registered in Rowe); front from Bordeaux carried by French steamer to San Felipe with rate notations and ''Vaparaiso'' & ''Ultramar'' in red; another cover (origin unknown) with red ''Ultramar'' & ''Valparaiso'' handstrucks (ex-Gálvez). . Vapor Bogotá (1852-53). Entire letter from Valparaíso to Lima with superb strike of ''Vapor Bogota/P'' with on reverse framed blue ''Vapor'' at Callao; cover from Santiago to Lima with fine ''Vapor Bogota/P'' and ''Santiago de Chile'' in oval u(sually seen on covers to external destinations), with same transit on back (ex-Gálvez). A scarce pair.

Vapor Chile (1840-52). 1846-50, group of 7 covers and entires including cover from external origin showing superb ''Vapor Chile/P'' in yellow (ex-Gálvez); entire (ex-Lamy) and cover (ex-Gálvez) with the handstruck in blue; two entires with very fine strikes in black (one with also ''Ultramar'' & ''Valparaiso'' in red); entire (ex-Gálvez) and cover (ex-Lamy), both directed to Lima showing the handstruck in red. A scarce and very fine group with the four colours registered of this handstamp.

Vapor Nueva Granada (1842-53). 1847-50 ca., entire from Valparaíso to Tacna (Peru) showing superb ''Vapor N. Granada/P'' in blue with ''Arica'' transit on front (ex-Blank), and cover (reinforced on reverse) from the Peruvian legation in Santiago endorsed ''Oficial'' to Arequipa with ''Santiago de Chile'' in oval and very fine and very scarce strike in red of the PSNC marking (ex-Gálvez). A scarce pair.

. 1831-71. 1831 cover via Bordeaux by French steamer to London and three covers carried by British steamers: 1847 entire to Cádiz (Spain) via France with on reverse manuscript ''Encaminada por C. de Murrieta'', carried by forwarding agent from London to France and charged on arrival ''11 R'', 1848 front of cover from Copiapó to Paris with Panama transits and 1874 cover to Paris with on reverse ''Valparaiso/Unpaid'' cds and ''GB/1F 90 c'' accountancy marking on front. Four items in total.

French and American Forwarding Agents
. 1834-53. Three covers to Valparaíso, Cobija and France with on reverse two superb different strikes of ''Lebris & Lamotte'' and ''A. Lamotte & Co.'' in Valparaíso; plus printed matter with departures of steamers from Valparaíso, sent to United States with on front ''Paid'' and cachet of the American ''NYE & Co.'' in Valparaíso. A very fine and scarce group of four items.

British P.O. in Chile
. 1855, Nov 30. Entire letter showing very fine strike of red ''Paid at Valparaiso'' crowned double circle datestamp sent by steamer to New York where it received the U.S. ship tax cancellation ''20''. British Valparaiso cds on reverse. Closed small tear at top of entire away from handstrucks, mentioned solely for accuracy.
